Recently thousands of males and females have been interviewed about the most annoying beauty calamities, and the majority of respondents named pimples the most distressing problem. Acne, although usually found in teens, may occur at any age. Not only is the face affected, but sometimes also the neck and the back. What can be done to cure it? At first, try over-the-counter acne solutions that contain salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is the most commonly used acne solution and is regarded as one of the most powerful ones available on the market. If you are suffering from mild forms of acne that is non-inflammatory, benzoyl peroxide is regarded as exceedingly powerful. Because it is safe both for adults and children, it is preferable to other kinds of treatments. Nonetheless, there are some minor side effects. It can cause dryness in the skin. If you experience too much dryness, stop applying the treatment for a while and then, using a lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide, try out once again. Salicylic acid works best of all on non-inflammatory cases of acne and it begins by exfoliating the dead skin, thus keeping the pores of the skin pour and preventing plugging. When nothing plugs the pores, your chances of getting pimples and blackheads reduce drastically. But skin irritation is possible. Patients have complained of dry skin, stinging or burning feeling, and flaking and peeling of the skin. If the treatment does not work on you, speak to your general practitioner about prescription products, including antibiotics, retinoids and adapalene (Differin). Antibiotics prevent bacteria from growing and spreading in the body. Even though results become visible quicker, antibiotics are commonly not preferred by patients, because they bring on side effects, such as upset stomach, discoloration of the skin, giddiness and photosensitivity. If you are suffering from severe forms of cystic acne, your doctor may recommend isotretinoin (Accutane) or may send you to a dermatologist. Since grave side effects are possible, men and women taking Accutane should be carefully observed by their doctors. If other acne solutions appear ineffective, laser or light therapy may be used. |
